SCAN-Lab Technical Notes 03: Relating Work Function Difference Measured by Scanning Kelvin Probe (SKP) to Corrosion Potential.

Latest updated: August 4, 2021

Introduction

Stratmann [1,2] et al. described the theory behind the relationship between the corrosion potential of metal and the Scanning Kelvin Probe (SKP) potential measurement. In the same series of papers, the method was demonstrated using Cu, Fe and Zn as calibration standards. This note demonstrates the same procedure using the BioLogic M470 Scanning Electrochemical Workstation with both the 500 µm and 150 µm SKP probes(P/N: U-SKP370/1 and U-SKP-150 respectively). The same procedure can be applied to the M370 Scanning Electrochemical Workstation.
