EC-Lab Technical Notes 34: How fast the instrument is able to switch from potentio to galvano mode and vice versa?

Latest updated: January 13, 2022

Introduction

The current electrochemical workstations are able to work in potentio mode (when the instrument controls the voltage of the cell) and galvano mode (when the instrument controls the cell current) control modes. But the ability to switch from one mode to the other is different for each instrument. Some measurements, especially for battery testing, require fast switching from one control mode to the other. In this case, the switching time between these two control modes becomes a relevant hardware parameter. The potentio/galvano and galvano/potentio switching time have been measured on our instruments by an oscilloscope. The results are shown in this Technical Note.
