EC-Lab Technical Notes 29: How to use the purge tube?

Latest updated: August 4, 2021

Introduction

When the compound of interest is sensitive to oxygen and/or to humidity, or if the electroactivity of the compound is in the cathodic area, the electrochemical measurement has to be performed in oxygen-free and/or in water-free condition. The user may carry out the experiment either in or outside a glove box. In either case, the user has to purge the atmosphere and the solution by the flow of an inert gas such as Argon or Nitrogen through the purge tubes. The aim of this technical note is to explain how to use the simple and double purge tubes.
