EC-Lab Technical Notes 20: MEASURE versus CONTROL mode: extended current ranges

Latest updated: August 16, 2021

Introduction

Our potentiostats are designed to work in either Potentio (static or dynamic) mode or Galvano (static or dynamic) mode. In the Potentio mode, the potential between the working and the reference electrode is controlled. The current resulting from the redox processes at the applied potential is measured. However, in Galvano mode, the current is controlled, and the potential is measured. In both cases, one variable is controlled and the other one is measured. The current and potential dimensions always have to be adjusted while choosing the range in which the experiment is performed. In fact, the accuracy of results will improve if the range is chosen closer to the experiment limits.
